Over the summer of 2023 I did research with MIT Homes, Agriculture, and Universal Sustainability (mit HAUS), a group working to 3D print houses out of recycled PET (rPET) using Big Area Additive Manufacturing (BAAM). I was on the structures team that designed, printed, and tested possible small-scale versions of the house floor.
Various designs with different dimensions and geometry were printed and tested.
The prints were tested using an Instron machine under three-point bending conditions. Several of them met HUD standards for deflection.
Some of the prints were tested to determine the force required to make them break.
